Everyone deserves a second chance…don’t they?
Jenny Masters finds herself living the modern dream. Wife to a millionaire, living in a mansion and mother to Kardashian-obsessed ten-year-old April, there isn’t anything missing. Until, her whole world comes crashing down, forcing Jenny and April to leave behind their glittering life and start over with nothing. With village gossip following her wherever she goes, she finds refuge and a job in the new coffee shop in town.
As the days pass Jenny fears she doesn’t have what it takes to pick herself back up and give April the life she always wanted to. But with the help of enigmatic new boss Noah, and housemate Elle, Jenny realises it’s never too late to become the woman life really intended you to be!
I absolutely LOVED this story, the characters and the author’s voice which shone through right from the beginning. I felt like I could identify with the main character, Jenny, right from the first page and was instantly drawn into wishing she was my best friend. I really felt for her as a character and found myself feeling her heartache too. I think, because of Jenny’s personal storyline, many women will be able to identify with her and really feel her journey throughout the book.
Noah, the male lead, was also a fantastically well written character. As the story progressed I found myself falling more and more in love with him and then towards the end, we hear more about his murky past and… that was it, I was well and truly in love with him and wanted to give him the biggest hug. And Elle – what a character! I absolutely LOVED her and thought Samantha Tonge handled her particular backstory with sensitivity and empathy and by adding this character, gave the story a further dimension.
Samanatha Tonge tackles many different taboo subjects in this book, all of which were written well and with purpose. I really enjoyed the fact that every character on the page has their own personal journey and I was pleased with the outcome for each one. There were some lovely twists and turns which kept my attention and has really given me a thirst for more books by this author. I cannot wait to delve into another novel written by Samantha Tonge. With a voice that is real, identifiable and strong, I just know I will enjoy more of her stories.
